Please join us for the first Winter version of Q Camp!  Q Camp is our orientation to the UCSD Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community for students who want to find out how to be involved and to get connected.  If you are new to UCSD and/or new to the LGBT community, Winter Q Camp 2008 is for you!  Refreshments will be provided.

American Pie: What's Under the Crust?

Join international and American strudents for a day of learning about the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. We will march in the Martin Luther King Jr. parade, complete a community service project as a part of the MKL Day of Service, and wrap up with a dinner and discussion.

Sign up at the Cross-Cultural Center. Be sure to sign up ASAP, as space is limited.

Jeannie Cheatham: My Life in Music

Jeannie Cheatham and friends will read chapters from her lively autobiography,Meet Me With Your Black Drawers On. Meet Me With Your Black Drawers On is the memoir of a woman of color who grew up during the Great Depression. Jeannie writes of a life spent fighting racism and sexism, of rage and resolve, misery and miracles, betrayals and triumphs, of faith almost lost in dark places but mysteriously regained in a flash of light.

Growing Activism: People's History of UC San Diego

A new series on UCSD-TV, "Growing Activism: wclogoPeople's History of UC San Diego", will explore how UCSD students connect to contemporary issues and how local activist organizations in the region address these issues. The series, hosted by Dr. Pellow and Dr. Mariscal,
traces the UCSD history of student activism dating back to the first demonstrations in the mid-1960s. "Growing Activism" will air on UCSD-TV through late January.

The celebration also includes speakers on the principles of Kwanzaa, the festive lighting of the candles, and delicious healthy African American cuisine. Sister Salimu will speak on Kwanzaa history and Traditions. Kemetic teacher "Bikbaye" will off the opening Prayer. Come one, come all to Celebrate!!!

This years theme is UCSD Honors Black History Month Redefining American Identity. We are excited about our theme and the diversity of programs that will help bring our theme and the essence of Black History Month to life on UCSDs campus. To submit program, download and submit the calendar form. All programs submitted by Friday, January 11, 2008 will be included in the Black History Month calendar and website. Project L.Y.F.E. Seeking Queer  Asian American Voices
 
Project L.Y.F.E. (Leadership and Youth Fighting for Education) is documenting the ways in which Queer Asian American college students navigate the socio-educational landscape of higher education. Everyday, Queer Asian American college students come "out" in classrooms, writing about y(our) experiences, challenging stereotypes and fighting for LGBTIQ rights all in support of a Queer Asian American movement. Project *L.Y.F.E.* will document the substantive individual and collective actions and advocacy efforts Queer Asian American college students fight for.
