Ohio Conference Disaster Response Team Update

Disaster situations complicated by unsolicited donations

Clorox CleanUpCleaning kit supply is gone - more kits needed!

Spring tornadoes and flooding in the Midwest produced a great need for cleaning kits.  More than 1,500 kits - almost all that were stored in Ohio - were delivered to people in need of them in Birmingham, Alabama and Evansville, Indiana. We need to replenish our supply so that kits are available the next time a disaster strikes.  Instructions and kit "recipes"

North Jackson church sends work group to help clean up and repair after flash floods in southern Ohio

Volunteer in Pedro, Ohio

Pedro, Ohio (near Ironton) is not even a crossroads. It's the kind of place TV cameras never go, but people suffer the effects of natural disasters just the same. Nine youth and adults from First Federated Church, North Jackson, Ohio made the 5 1/2-hour trip south in mid-July to help three families clean up after flash flooding.    More

Long-term disaster response efforts continue in West Virginia

Residents of southwest West Virginia often do not have the resources to repair their homes after a storm or flood.  The area is plagued with high unemployment and the resulting low family incomes.

Mission Trip Volunteer

People without insurance or the ability to make their own repairs can wait months, even years, after a disaster for help, while conditions in their homes deteriorate. These are the people who long-term disaster recovery volunteers seek to help.  More

Ready.. Responsive.. Radically Inclusive.

"Jesus scandalized the religious establishment of his day by hanging out with people on the margins of his society. To the church's detriment, however, its inclusion of people with disabilities has often fallen short of Jesus' example. Acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities may bog down, in part, for theological reasons."

                                     - Christine Guth, keynote speaker
