 Greek Island Cooking - Dinner & Dancing with Lella Leonitis

Cooking with Lella is not a class - it is an experience! Lella credits her love affair with the cooking styles of the Greek Islands to her father, a gregarious Greek fisherman who came from a family of organic farmers. They raised everything from vegetables to sheep, all free of additives. Her father's secret to a healthy lifestyle is cooking from scratch every day, from breakfast to dinner. Lella's style of cooking is creative, yet rooted in the healthy cuisine her father embraced. She favors dishes that rely on fresh foods and - given today's busy lifestyles - meals that can be prepared quickly. Olive oil, garlic and lemons are often key ingredients.

 Beginners, take heed!

sizzleowrks logo Whether you need to brush up basic skills or are starting out on your own and need to learn them anew, this four-part series is for you. For college-bound students and newlyweds, as well as for more seasoned cooks needing a review of fundamentals, How to Boil Water features an introduction to cooking ABC's and a foundation that will transfer into your everyday meals.

This fun, interactive series is designed for novice and everyday cooks - with an eye toward building great cooking skills for a lifetime. The basics, from knife skills to sauce-making and menu planning, and from how to read a recipe to cooking like a pro, we will cover it all.

Three 4-class series will be offered:

Meet newest guest instructor, Taku Kusakabe, as he introduces you to traditional Japanese home-style cooking with cold noodle dishes. Come and prepare different types of noodles, dipping sauces for the noodles and a variety of condiments. Taku will include Japanese knife techniques, presentation ideas for your noodles and serving suggestions. How do you say "YUM!" in Japanese?

 Linguini with Green Sauce
 A quick side dish

asparagus peeling As presented at the Northwest Women's Show

    1 orange
  • 2 tablespoons pine nuts
  • 1 cup Italian parsley leaves, washed and dried
  • 2/3 cup walnut pieces (3 ounces)
  • 1 medium clove garlic
  • 3/4 cup Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • pinch black pepper
  • 12-16 ounces freshly cooked linguini
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese


  • Mince parsley, walnuts and garlic in food processor, blender or by hand. With machine running, slowly add olive oil, until well incorporated. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve over hot pasta, sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan.

    Makes 6 to 8 side servings.
