Maundy Thursday Foot Washing
ecc nurses
A team of nurses provided medical care at the foot washing.
Over two hundred people received new shoes and socks last Thursday during the Interfaith Community Foot Washing at the Center.

Volunteers from throughout our Episcopal diocese joined forces with local Lutherans, Methodists, Nazarenes, Roman Catholics, evangelicals and secularists to create a day filled with services for people in need. In addition to receiving new shoes, guests received a foot washing, a hot meal, veterinary checks for their pets, hair cuts, dental exams, medical and legal services, prayer and communion.

Bishop Mathes, and others, washed the feet of homeless people, and anyone in need. Read more.

One Year Later
For many years, this church reached out into the community with food services and for support groups. These services continue to this day.

Through getting to know the community, other needs have been identified and services have been added. Take a look at the calendar to the left and see what activities are going on now.

Time passes quickly and it's hard to believe that just one year ago, we were gathering in Trinity Chapel celebrating the Eucharist with many of you.

We're engaging with the community, learning how to partner with business, and exploring the nuances of being a good neighbor.

It's been a year filled with new horizons and renewed energy and serves as a firm foundation for an even stronger 2012.

Second Chances - Bread of Life: A Community Institution
Glyn Franks
Glyn Franks
Many of the new programs currently housed at the Center are a result of a relationship developed with Glyn Franks, president of Second Chances - Bread of Life. Glyn has been serving the needs of the Ocean Beach community for almost 20 years. It is indeed his ministry.

During the week you can find Glyn making trips to Feeding American and the San Diego Food Bank in preparation for the Saturday morning breakfast and a community food distribution here at the Center on Thursday afternoons and at the Orchard Apartments on Saturday morning.

Recently, we began offering a community meal at noon and the community food distribution in the afternoon.

Second Chances - Bread of Life was also instrumental in bringing the medical teams from UCSD and CSU San Marcos into the Center on Saturday mornings.

It's like a small city, what with breakfast being served and medical clinics underway, plus haircuts happening in the courtyard.

Second Chances, under Glyn's leadership, has its pulse on the needs of the community.
