May you know the wisdom of deep learning,
The healing of wholesome words,
The encouragement of the appreciative gaze,
The decorum of held dignity,
The springtime edge of the bleak question.
May you have a mind that loves frontiers
So that you can evoke the bright fields
That lie beyond the view of the regular eye.
May you have good friends
To mirror your blind spots.
May leadership be for you
A true adventure of growth.
Part Four of "For a Leader," by John O'Donohue

Communication is Mission
[from "Putting the I-T in Spirit"] Mission is primarily about making the presence of God incarnate, that is, visible and tangible, in a particular place and a particular time, wherever the Body is lacking, and therefore most needed.
I have just returned from the Episcopal Communicator's Conference in Kanuga, NC. This is an annual conference where many of the communications people from the Episcopal Church come together for workshops, plenary talks, renewal and fellowship. It is a great opportunity to share ideas and recharge for the work we have to do in the coming year. One of the themes that came out of this year's conference is "Communication is Mission." I'd like to share an experience that happened for some of us after the conference that helped to bring that message home. Continue Reading

Via Crucis: Way of the Cross to the Border

Via Crucis: Way of the Cross Border Eucharist, a communion service will highlight the plight of immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. The service, which falls on the Monday before Easter, will be on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Friendship Park. A group of Mexican nationals will participate from the Tijuana side of the border fence at Playas de Tijuana, around the Monument a los Toros. Members of the Episcopal Dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego, including the Rt. Rev. Diane Jardine Bruce, bishop suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and the Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes, bishop diocesan of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, will draw attention to the plight of immigrants as they travel the way of the cross. The pilgrims will stop along the way to the border to pray the stations of the cross, ending at the border for the last station. There they will share the memory that Jesus was also received as an unwelcomed immigrant -- from heaven to earth. "Indeed, the constellation of issues that we catalog as immigration comprises the civil rights challenge of our generation," said Bishop Mathes. "This is our Selma. This is our Birmingham." For more information visit the diocesan web site or contact Ms. Nancy Holland, 619-823-8998. |
