Via Crucis: Way of the Cross to the Border

Stand in Solidarity with Immigrants:
Attend the border Eucharist during Holy Week.
Join members of the Episcopal Dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego, including Bishop Mathes, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, and Bishop Bruce, bishop suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, as we travel the way of the cross on Monday in Holy Week, April 2, and celebrate Holy Eucharist in one of the holiest of places -- the border fence that divides the United States and Mexico.

As part of our new Mission Plan, our diocese is focusing on the issue of international borders; this event enables all to participate in a public service that highlights the plight of immigrants, even as we celebrate the risen Christ, who was a boundary crosser, and an immigrant to this earth.

The pilgrimage, the Way of the Cross, or Via Crucis in Spanish, begins with the first station at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles and concludes at Friendship Park at the US-Mexican border.

The pilgrimage will be accompanied by an image (6 feet tall) of Jesus Salvador del Mundo who will be riding in the back of a truck from Echo Park (the Los Angeles Episcopal Diocesan Center), stoping at each location, and then will be carried to the border wall where the Eucharist will be celebrated.

Here are all the stops along the way:

It is advisable to wear walking shoes and to carpool from St. John's to the park.
