Dear Friends in Christ,

Kids love Camp Stevens

Once again we celebrate the ministry of Camp Stevens with Camp Stevens Sunday throughout our diocese. Please take this opportunity to rejoice in the gift of our diocesan camp, and to invite your entire congregation to explore the values of our camping program and encourage them to support it. The camp has sent you colorful brochures for your service bulletins on Camp Stevens Sunday. Please use them on whichever Sunday in late April or early May is most convenient for you.

It is truly amazing what has risen from the ashes of the 2007 fire at the camp. Rebuilding is nearly complete. The new summer camp cabins are now under construction and will be ready for campers this summer. I would encourage a congregational field trip to Camp Stevens for their Open House from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, May 20 to celebrate the rebuilding of the camp. Everyone is welcome!

As summer approaches, I also ask that you encourage parents in your congregation to send their children, ages 8-16, to Camp Stevens this summer. Our diocesan camping program emphasizes leadership development and creativity in a safe and loving Christian community. 

Camp Stevens truly is a place where spiritual formation really happens; children discover inner strength, express compassion for others, experience God's love through a caring community, are awed by God's creation and accept responsibility to care for it. It's also a place full of adventure and lots of fun!
