Mission Plan Update

At our recent diocesan convention, a new mission plan was approved for our work together over the next three to five years.  Based on our baptismal covenant, the mission plan will focus on worship, evangelism, outreach, advocacy, repentance and reconciliation, and stewardship. Teams are eager to visit your congregation and share how this plan will help build and shape our lives. For more information, call Canon Howard Smith: 619-481-5451, or visit the diocesan website: www.edsd.org/strategicplan.

February 29 Facts

There were 11,430 births on the most recent leap year, February 29, 2008, on par with the average daily number of births for the year (11,606), says the National Center for Health Statistics.

It was the ancient Egyptians who first figured out that the solar year and the human-made calendar year didn't always match up.

Singer Dinah Shore was born on February 29, 1916.

The chance of being born on leap day is about 1 in 1,461, says Raenell Dawn, co-founder with Peter Brouwer of The Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies (leapday.com), an online club that counts 9,000 members worldwide.

About 5 million people worldwide celebrate leap-day birthdays.
