New Director in Ocean Beach
nancy holland

Nancy Holland, the new director of the Episcopal Church Center in Ocean Beach.

Bishop Mathes appointed Nancy Holland to be the new director of the Episcopal Church Center, former known as Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

"Nancy Holland is a stellar individual," said Bishop Mathes. "She offers boundless enthusiasm and energy to this project of creating a diocesan center in Ocean Beach."

The center will be a gathering place for diocesan meetings and business as well as a haven for people in need. Bishop Mathes envisions the Episcopal Church Center as a training campus for new priests, deacons and laypersons.

"I'm really excited about this," said Holland as she talked about future plans for the center. "A conscious decision has been made to place this diocesan center in a neighborhood with some special needs."

Among her responsibilities as director, Holland will coordinate all activities at the center, including managing the budget and scheduling programs. She works closely with the bishop and his staff to refine and advance the center's vision. Perhaps most importantly she will build relationships in the local community to help bring about the vision, making it a reality in a place where so many need so much.

"I look out every day and I see God's abundance everywhere," she said. "Part of my responsibility is to give back."

Stay tuned for more information about the Episcopal Church Center.

Catechumenate Gathering in San Francisco
naac logo
Mercy Center, Burlingame, California is the location of the 15th Annual North American Association for the Catechumenate Gathering August 1-3. The Gathering theme is Christian Initiation and the Prayer of the Faithful. Dr. Mark Stamm, Southern Methodist University Associate Professor of Worship, is the featured speaker. Dr Stamm served as Convener of the Christian Initiation Seminar for the North American Academy of Liturgy from 2006-2009. He will address the issue of how the catechumenate can unleash spiritual power for baptismal living within the church.

NAAC President the Rev. Dr. Rick Rouse, invites pastors, worship leaders, and educators of all denominations to attend: anyone who wants to help congregations move from a paradigm of membership to discipleship will find the catechumenate an invaluable tool and should attend this conference. In addition to inspirational keynote presentations, the Gathering includes daily worship experiences, practical workshops and opportunities to engage numerous ministry practitioners as well as leaders of catechumenate development in the United States and Canada. For more information and registration for this event, visit www.catechumenate.org. Or contact Jerry Pare.

The North American Association for the Catechumenate is an ecumenical organization dedicated to the development of the catechumenate and the formation of Christians in North America. The Association provides training and support for churches engaged in the process of baptismal conversion and making Christian disciples. A brochure for the 2011 annual gathering may be downloaded and online registration is available on the web site.
