Welcome back to campus for Spring Quarter!  I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Spring Break.

Those of us who did the Urban Mission Experience in City Heights during the first half of break had lots of fun, learned a lot, were challenged and inspired, and were able to be of service in several settings.  Stay tuned for news of how you can be involved with various service opportunities that we experienced--tutoring refugee children, for example.

The next few weeks include the Burke lectureship on evolution and creation, an ordination service in which 3 of the 4 people being ordained are present or past Campus Missioners to UCSD, and the final weeks of Lent.  See information about all those below.

This Week

707 (Sunday 4/3/11) - Come enjoy a free HOME-COOKED dinner and worship service. 7:00pm, International Center Lounge.

 Upcoming Events

Burke Lectureship, Thursday, April 7th - "Darwin's Gift to Science and Religion" given by Francisco J. Ayala.  This should be a good lecture, for more information visit the Burke website here.

Ayala is an internationally renowned scientist for his studies on population and evolutionary genetics. He has been called the "Renaissance Man of Evolutionary Biology". He is a critic of creationism and intelligent design theories.

If you would like to attend, let Wesley know.  It is at 8:00pm in the Student Services Center Multipurpose Room.

Gillian's Ordination, Saturday, April 9th - Our very own Gillian Barr is being ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests, and friend and past campus minister Mike Angell is being ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons.  Saint Paul's Cathedral at Fifth Ave and Nutmeg St. in downtown San Diego at 10:00am.  As the invitations say, "Your prayers and presence are requested."  If you would like a ride to the Cathedral, please get in contact with Wesley no later than Tuesday the 5th of April.

Palm Sunday April 17: It is traditional to read the Gospel accounts of Jesus arrest and crucifixion on Palm Sunday.  It's a long reading, and many congregations assign different people to read the "parts" as a dramatic reading.  If you'd be interested in taking a part (Jesus?  Judas?  Peter? Pilate?) for the Gospel reading that week at 707, let Wesley know via email and be sure to be at 707 on April 10th to pick up your "script."  No memorization or particular drama skills required--just a willingness to read w/ some care.

Easter 707 Service/Sunrise Service at the Cliffs - Instead of the usual Sunday night service, the Easter service will be held as a sunrise service at 7:07 AM on the cliffs above Blacks Beach. I will have maps and such to send out as the date gets closer, for more information please contact Wesley Swords.
