United Way Needs Your Help
When you contribute to United Way, you're helping your neighbors through 45 health and human care agencies. Your donations stay right here where United Way assures all donors that the money is being used efficiently and effectively on the most pressing needs in Horry County.
More than 157,000 people were impacted by a United Way Community Partner agency in 2010 because you invested in creating lasting changes! The needs are becoming greater every day and United Way Community Partners are counting on United Way funding.
United Way is $180,000 from goal and we need YOUR help in making this goal. If you know someone who has not given to this year's campaign, please ask them to give. Remember ONE GIFT helps 45 agencies and impacts thousands of lives. If you have reported figures to turn in, please call the United Way office at 843.347.5195.

VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, is a valuable program in our community that can offer tax preparation assistance. Our local United Way is part of the Horry County Financial Literacy Coalition of non-profit and governmental organizations working to ensure that this free tax assistance is available for individuals and families.
Horry County VITA locations are available for individuals to receive free help for their taxes this season:
Surfside Library: Tuesdays 3:30pm - 6:00pm
Chapin Memorial Library:
Wednesdays 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Conway Library:
Saturdays 10:00am - 2:00pm
Coastal Carolina University*:
Tuesdays 4:30pm - 7:00pm Wednesdays 4:30pm - 7:00pm (2/15, 3/7, 3/28, 4/4)
Thursdays 4:30pm - 7:00pm
Fridays 12 Noon - 3:00pm
(2/24, 3/2, 3/23) *There will be no VITA hours during Spring Break (March 12-16).

Items you should have before you arrive at a VITA site, which will help preparers accurately determine EITC eligibility and prepare returns, individuals should bring:
- Photo proof of identification
- Social Security cards for themselves, their spouse and all dependents or Social Security number verification letters issued by the Social Security Administration
- Birth dates for all persons listed on the tax return
- Wage and earning statement(s) Forms W-2, W-2G, and 1099-R, from all employers
- Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
- Copies of their prior year federal and state returns, if available
- Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of their refunds
- Other relevant information about income and expenses
- Amounts paid for day care, if applicable, and the day care provider's identifying number.
Both spouses must be present to sign joint returns. Anyone paid to prepare federal income tax returns is required by law to sign the return and enter their Preparer Tax Identification Number. |

The Difference Your Donation Makes In a Year
$1 a week provides a meal and safe haven to a family of four.
$2 a week provides 5 weeks of after school care for an at-risk child.
$3 a week provides support to 13 students who appear to have a learning difficulty such as dyslexia.
$4 a week provides utility assistance to 3 families for a whole month.
$5 a week provides an average of 3 doctor visits, blood work, tests, some medical procedures and medications for one patient for a whole year.
$10 a week can provide two full days of counseling, housing, childcare, food and social services for an abused victim and their family. |
