45 LOCAL agencies are depending on United Way and its volunteers to raise the much needed funds to help their clients!

Local United Way Has Reached Over 70% of Goal

Just in time for the holiday season, volunteers with United Way of Horry County are expressing both gratitude and renewed commitment as the annual fundraising campaign is at 75% its goal of $1,275,000.

"It's a great feeling to be in the home stretch with our campaign," says Campaign Chairperson Cathe Singleton. "But we can't lose sight of the fact that with an unstable economy, we still have a huge challenge before us to be successful and raise the much needed funds to support 45 local agencies in 2012."

Local volunteers of United Way of Horry County are well into this year's fundraising campaign. "The needs that are all so evident over the holidays reflect the growing needs that are present every day of the year," says Singleton.

Local United Way volunteers are cautiously optimistic about the campaign but recognize the need to close the $321,000 gap. "Last year, more than 157,000 Horry County individuals were assisted by a United Way partner," says Steve Chapman, United Way board chair. "Our agencies are counting on us to come through with the funding they so desperately need for next year; we've got to express how important it is to give back."

The United Way of Horry County supports 45 local Community Partner agencies and every dollar collected is put to work right here in Horry County to help those in need.   "With one gift that stays in the community, you have the ability to touch the lives of thousands of our local neighbors," states Singleton. "Where can you give one gift that can so significantly impact so many outstanding organizations?"

With the holiday season here and the end of the year near, United Way reminds you that this is the perfect time to give a gift that keeps on giving through the New Year. There are so many ways people can give back during the holiday season through the United Way, including making a donation in honor of or in memory of someone, sponsoring a family for the holidays, and volunteering.

United Way of Horry County is making every effort to complete its campaign by the end of the year. To make a pledge, or if you have any questions, please contact the United Way office at 347-5195 or visit us online.

Gift Ideas for this Holiday Season

There are so many ways people can give back during the holiday season:

  • "The Gift" that keeps on giving - Make a donation in honor of or in memory of someone
  • Sponsor a family for the holidays
  • Volunteer

All of these options are acts of true giving during the holiday season.

"THE GIFT"- making a monetary donation in honor of or in memory of someone. You are impacting the lives of thousands of residents in Horry County when you make a donation in honor of or in memory of someone. United Way will send a special card to recognize your contribution.

Sponsoring a family is another way to help during the holidays. Companies and individuals contact the United Way office asking about a deserving family in need during the holidays. These families are chosen by United Way agencies.

Volunteering is also a huge help to United Way partners who assist so many in our community. For more information about volunteer opportunities, contact the United Way office.

Be assured that your acts of generosity are sincerely appreciated by the United Way and our agencies, as well as the many individuals and families they serve. We hope that as you explore these options, you will find a meaningful way to help others, which will lead to new awareness and new relationships that last long after the holiday celebrations are over.   Thank you and best wishes for a safe and peace filled holiday.

Volunteers Needed!

VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, is preparing for the upcoming tax season and is on the "hunt" for volunteers!

The Horry County Financial Literacy Coalition, in partnership with United Way and the IRS, provide free income tax preparation services and financial education workshops throughout Horry County.

But we need volunteers like YOU who are willing to be trained and serve.  Training starts in December and volunteers generally work two days a week through the end of April.  No prior experience is needed, just a comfort with computers and working with your neighbors. Volunteers are trained by an IRS representative.

For more information, call the United Way office at 843.347.5195 or email us!
