Gifts

Today's Scripture

God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, then prophesy whenever you can-as often as your faith is strong enough to receive a message from God. If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching. If you are a preacher, see to it that your sermons are strong and helpful. If God has given you money, be generous in helping others with it. If God has given you administrative ability and put you in charge of the work of others, take the responsibility seriously. Those who offer comfort to the sorrowing should do so with Christian cheer.

Today's Word from Marty and Jessica

Some of us have either forgotten or not yet discovered that God has given each one of us extraordinary gifts and talents.  You may not be exercising them or using them right now, but there is a gift in you just waiting to be released to bless someone, maybe even inspire the next generation.

As a child, while playing in the basement of my grandparent's home I saw a painting of the most beautiful sailing ship I had ever seen before.  When asked "Who painted it?"  I was told to my amazement that my mother did when she was a teenager.  Some years later the wall was covered up and the painting lay buried beneath the walls of a new room.  Throughout the years I would recall that painting and ask my mother, "Why don't you still paint?" and she would always say she was "too busy raising a family and just didn't have the time anymore".  Years have passed now, forgotten, the painting still remains covered, unseen by a new generation and a gift from God was laid aside.  The ironic thing is my mother's inspiration was birthed and came to life as she admired the paintings and sculptures that were created by her grandfather.  Wow!

Don't let your God-given gifts lay dormant another day, someone needs them.  It may be a relative, a friend, grandchild, stranger or even you.  Whatever God has knitted in you, as the psalmist wrote, He did so as an expression of His love for you and for the entire world.  Learn to Worship God, thanking Him as you express your gifts and talents.  In doing so you just might inspire the next generation to be all they were meant to be.  Enjoy your God-given gifts!

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly father, today I'm going to sing the song You put in my heart, I'm going to purchase that violin or piano that I've always wanted to play.  Today, I'm going to enjoy the workmanship You created in me and enjoy Your expressions of life.  Today, I'm going to begin being all You created me to be, an expression of Your love to the world.  In Jesus Name.  Amen!
