want to work at breathe books?
Greetings!

Interested in working at breathe books? Or know a friend who is?

It looks like we will be hiring soon! In the eight years that we have been open I have been truly blessed with amazing employees. But the world of retail is fluid and every now and then I find I have the opportunity to hire new people. Everyone who has worked at breathe has contributed so much to the shop and the community. Maybe you will be next?

You will find here a description and the basic requirements I am seeking in an employee.

breathe books is seeking a person to work 3 - 4 days a week in our vibrant and busy bookstore. We go to great lengths to create an atmosphere of energetic calm where all are welcome and encouraged to seek out new information to support their path and journey. As we are a small store with a small staff, everyone who works here needs to know all the operations.

The ideal employee has the following qualities:

At least 1 year retail sales experience: bookstore is preferred, but some sort of shop or customer service experience is required.

Knowledge of the metaphysical book world: Must know the trends in the industry and the major writers and contributors. Knowledge of specific genres like Buddhism, Meditation, Aromatherapy, Yoga, Reiki, etc. is a plus.

Must be well-read and knowledgeable about books and publishing.

Must be punctual as well as flexible with your schedule.

Must know how to use Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel: Computer literacy is a must -- you need to be comfortable with all aspects of the computer. You will learn how to use our inventory system, booklog, how to update our website, and how to use our email newsletter system, Constant Contact. You will be responsible for monitoring emails, sending out group newsletters, creating monthly event calendars, handling many computer-related functions and maintaining our Facebook pages. Graphic design experience is a plus.

Ability to multi-task and problem solve on your own: We are a very busy little shop. The phone rings constantly, people need help in the store, clients are waiting for appointments with practitioners, customers are in line and you are on deadline for placing an order. You must be able to handle all these tasks (and more) with grace and ease. A warm, calm, collected personality is necessary for this position as you will often be in the store on your own. You must understand how to handle the stress and to be efficient and nice at the same time!

Must be able to lift heavy boxes: A minimum of 20 pounds.

General store maintenance is required inside and outside of the shop.

All must be done with a smile, patience, tolerance, and a caring demeanor. Creativity is welcome!

Compensation is hourly and dependent upon past experience.  We are not able to offer health insurance at this time. You will receive a significant discount on books as well as free products and the some items at wholesale.

Please send your resume and a cover letter detailing why you want to work at breathe books to susan@breathebooks.com. I will be in touch with you shortly.

Thank you so much for your interest in our magical little bookshop, breathe books! It's a great pace to work!
