Hello Baltimore IONS Members!
We take a turn toward the personal this month. Our discussion group will focus on the process of Transformation - how does it happen and what can accelerate it? We're also launching a new Movie Night. Read on for details of these and the April book club selection: The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos.
A big thanks to the majority of our members who voted to move regular meetings to Tuesdays so people who have trouble climbing stairs can attend. General discussions and book clubs will now be in the carriage house behind breathe books. Apologies to a few people who could only make Mondays. However, movies will screen on Fridays and special weekend events will still be, well, on the weekend, so please join us then.
And now our March event details:
Tuesday, March 13th, 7:00 - 9:00 pm:
Transformation: What's It All About?

What does transformation mean to you? How do you practice or find it? It is said that to transforming the world begins with transforming the self. IONS has been studying transformative practices, in their Transformation Project, since 1997.
Meditation and other practices can change the brain, and can change the way we see ourself and how we relate to the world. Come to the Baltimore Friends of IONS meeting and share your personal tranformation experiences, discuss how transformation has changed your life, learn about the results of IONS studies on transformative practices and find helpful resources.
"On his return trip from the moon, astronaut Edgar Mitchell looked at planet earth and experienced a profound shift in consciousness. He understood the nature of the universe and his place in it in a new way, and that experience led him to change direction in his life and to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences.
Numerous research studies are finding that contemplative practices such as meditation affect the actual structures of our brains and can trigger changes in behavior and perspective. Have you experienced this?"

Join us for the Friends of IONS Movie Night. Our first film is an award-winning documentary film about psychic phenomena. The director, Renee Shheltema, explores parapsychology topics such as telepathy, clairvoyance, remote viewing, precognition, psychokinesis, and psychic healing. Top scientists and researchers appear, including Dr. Dean Radin and Dr. Edgar Mitchell from IONS, as well as Dr. Rupert Sheldrake and others.
"Interest in psychic phenomena has always been evident. But what does science have to say about these mysterious matters? Can science explain them? Is there evidence to prove them? Renee Scheltema explores this world of parapsychology in her documentary, Something Unknown... Is Doing I Don't Know What."
"...Grounded in a century's worth of data from psychical research and situated in the entangled realms of quantum theory, this movie will expand your horizons and broaden your worldview. Sit back, secure your seat belt, open your mind, and enjoy a new lens of perception. You won't want to miss it!"
- Marilyn Mandala Schlitz, Ph.D. President/CEO Institute of Noetic Sciences
BOOK CLUB: Tuesday, April 17th, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
The selection for April is The Hidden Reality: Parallel Realities and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos
by Brian Greene.
This will be a nice shift from our previous book The Holographic Universe. This book explores the idea that there could be many other Universes and... all parallel universes are just as holographic as ours.
Here is the Publisher's description:
"The bestselling author of The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos tackles perhaps the most mind-bending question in modern physics and cosmology: Is our universe the only universe?
There was a time when "universe" meant all there is. Everything. Yet, a number of theories are converging on the possibility that our universe may be but one among many parallel universes populating a vast multiverse. Here, Briane Greene, one of our foremost physicists and science writers, takes us on a breathtaking journey to a multiverse comprising an endless series of big bangs, a multiverse with duplicates of every one of us, a multiverse populated by vast sheets of spacetime, a multiverse in which all we consider real are holographic illusions, and even a multiverse made purely of math--and reveals the reality hidden within each.
Using his trademark wit and precision, Greene presents a thrilling survey of cutting-edge physics and confronts the inevitable question: How can fundamental science progress if great swaths of reality lie beyond our reach? The Hidden Reality is a remarkable adventure through a world more vast and strange than anything we could have imagined."
