2012: Time for Change

Oct. 10, 7:00 - 10:00 pm

Cost $9

We'll be part of a national screening of Daniel Pinchbeck's new film, "2012: Time for Change."

Over 1,000 years ago, the Classical Maya in Central America looked toward the year 2012 as a time of great change and a shift in World Ages. As we approach that date, it appears they may have been right. Humanity faces a dire ecological crisis due to our reckless activity. Hollywood and the popular media link the end of the Mayan Calendar to chaos, cataclysm, and mass death. Is a bleak ending inevitable, or can we co-create a different outcome?

2012: Time for Change projects a radical alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom. Directed by Emmy Award nominee Joao Amorim, the film follows journalist Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the bestselling
2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl
, on a quest for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic wisdom of tribal cultures with the scientific method. As conscious agents of evolution, we can redesign post-industrial society on ecological principles to make a world that works for all. Rather than breakdown and barbarism, 2012 will herald the birth of a regenerative planetary culture, where collaboration replaces competition, where exploration of psyche and spirit becomes the new cutting edge, replacing the sterile materialism that has pushed our world to the brink. This film will be shown in conjunction with our monthly IONS meeting.

Enjoy an experiential day of science and spirit!

NOW is the time, WE are the people. During these trying times, we are called to bring forth a larger, non-local, optimistic self. Activating our best selves requires us to grow along with each other with courage, inspiration, and fun. Our day will be a time to learn, use both sides of our brain, stretch the imagination and have fun in a welcoming, supportive environment. There will be lectures plus personal hands-on experience.

Peace Pilgrim: Her Life and Work in Her Own Words

From 1953 to 1981 a silver haired woman calling herself only "Peace Pilgrim" walked more than 25,000 miles on a personal pilgrimage for peace. She vowed to "remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food." In the course of her 28 year pilgrimage she touched the hearts, minds, and lives of thousands of individuals all across North America. Her message was both simple and profound. It continues to inspire people all over the world.

The book was compiled by 5 friends of Peace Pilgrim in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1982, the year after her glorious transition. It is composed mainly in her own words. The exceptions are the introduction, reproduced newspaper articles and comments by people she met while on her 28 year pilgrimage for peace.

Copies of Peace Pilgrim will be provided to IONS members at no charge by Nancie Rosenberg at the next meeting and at the annual gathering.

We hope to see you at these IONS events! Please invite your friends to join us! IONS meetings are open to the public and we love having new people attend.
