December 14, 2010
Hi Everyone,
I hope you are enjoying these final days of 2010. I'm so happy to see so many people in the shop that I haven't seen for a while. I'm glad that the holidays bring you out to the Avenue!

Just in case you need help with gift ideas, see these thoughts below. We'd also love to help you find the most special items in the shop!

Gifts for Perfect Health --
We offer soy candles, incense, books, meditation supplies, natural body products, and music. This year, I was thinking what could we also offer you that you could use for years and years?

The gifts Ayurveda has given me over the past three years have been spectacular and will be with me for the rest of my life. So I thought I would suggest them to you.

This ancient Indian science of life teaches us how to best heal ourselves by learning our personal mind/body constitution and how it most effectively responds to food and nutrition, your physical and emotional environment.  You can read about my weight-loss and Ayurvedic journey here. Treat yourself or someone you love to a gift of self-healing through Ayurveda:

Gift Idea #1: Ayurvedic Cooking Class. The next class will be on Sunday, January 16. I teach you how to cook for the season as well as your individual mind/body constitution - your dosha. Classes are fun and are designed for all levels of experience! Classes are held throughout the year. I can also teach cooking to a group in your home. Call or email for details. Cost: $50. (Watch this little clip from a recent Dr. Oz show on Ayurveda!)

Gift Idea #2: Individual Ayurvedic Consultation. In a one-on-one consult, we're able to go deep and uncover patterns that have been contributing to areas of your life where you feel out-of-balance, out-of-control, or unhealthy. We discover what is, and what is not, serving you, and look at ways of bringing healing into your life on a new and permanent level. Cost: $150 for one and a half hour meeting. Follow-up meetings: $75 per hour. Or $200 if you pre-pay for one consult and one follow-up (you can save $25).

Gift #3: Perfect Health Through Ayurveda: 10-hour course
In this Chopra Center signature class you will learn how to easily create a lifestyle wellness program based on Ayurveda. These powerful practices and techniques are designed to restore your vitality, reduce stress, teach you to eat for your dosha, meditate with ease, repair and revitalize relationships, and sleep better. Cost: $495. Next class is a 2-day intensive, Saturdays, January 15 & 22. (pre-pay by December 16 and save $75). The program will be taught in various forms throughout the year. to yourself to begin the New Year. Read more about my Ayurvedic journey here.

Several hundred people have taken this course since I began teaching it in January, 2009. Many people have gone on to truly make significant and wonderful changes in the the way they are living their lives. It's your turn!

Course Outline:
Perfect Health Through Ayurveda
The Perfect Health course offers a five-step exploration of mind-body medicine and Ayurveda. The course is designed for the general public who have had little or no previous understanding of these concepts. Each of the five lessons includes instruction in the practical tools and techniques of mind-body medicine that participants can immediately begin using in their daily lives.

Session One I'll introduce you to the foundational principles of Ayurveda, meditation, and yoga as well as the three primary mind-body doshas or personalities: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Through an in-depth questionnaire and analysis, you'll discover your own dosha type.

Session Two. In this session on "Food as Medicine," you will learn how to select the most nourishing foods for your mind-body type. Your instructor will also guide you in Ayurvedic nutritional practices that will help you maintain vibrant health, appropriate weight, and optimized digestion.

Session Three. This session focuses on the tools and practices of rejuvenation and renewal. You'll learn how to identify and eliminate toxins that accumulate in the mind and body. In addition, you will be guided in gentle rejuvenating practices, holistic techniques to relieve stress and anxiety, a personal daily routine for balance and health, and the secrets of restful sleep.

Session Four.  Learn why emotional freedom is the key to our physical, mental, and emotional health. Your instructor will teach you the practice of conscious communication, which can transform your relationships and help you experience more intimacy and joy in your life.

Session Five. The final session delves into the healing power of the five senses: sound, touch, sight, taste, and smell. You'll learn how to strengthen the body's inner pharmacy by using specific tools that use each of the senses to heal, nourish, and balance your mind-body.

Cost: Materials and food samplings: $395. Must register and pay in advance

alternative to football and parades on TV. The idea began in December 2004, because I as an adult, I always felt a bit left out and alone on Christmas Day. So when I opened the store, I decided to create a get-together for people of all religions - or no religion at all - to be together and not feel alone. So please join us! Bring a Veggie dish to share (vegan and gluten free are great too). We'll show a movie, mingle and have a good time. Proceeds from sales will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.  A Note From credit cardsSusan: Did you know that the Credit Card Companies charge us  fees every time we swipe your card (debit cards and credit cards)? For some businesses, merchant fees are the second largest expense after rent! But it is a cost we can reduce by educating the public. Sunday, January 23, 1 p.m. Meet the Author Amanda Owen: The Power of Receiving: A Revolutionary Approach to Giving Yourself the Life You Want and Deserve

From an early age, we're taught about the importance of giving; we learn that a 'good person' is someone who gives to others and places the needs of others before one's own. What we're not taught, however, is how important it is to learn to receive. Too often, we are reluctant to embrace philosophies and behaviors that put our needs above, or even equal to, those of others for fear of being viewed as selfish.

Amanda Owen, popular www.Astrology.com columnist and founder of the transformative Receive and Manifest seminars, has set out to fix this imbalance. In THE POWER OF RECEIVING: A Revolutionary Approach to Giving Yourself the Life You Want and Deserve, she presents a new paradigm for the 21st century, drawing from such wide-ranging inspirations as Eastern and Buddhist philosophies, quantum theory, and plain, old-fashioned common sense, THE POWER OF RECEIVING utilizes a simple formula: Believe + Receive = Achieve, to teach us how to open ourselves to life's gifts, big and small. Cost: Free
