Dear KIT's Friends,
It's that time of the year when we think of the past and the future of KIT. As you might have noticed by our newsletters, we have been trying to offer you a wide range of programs, to bring you the best of Italian culture through readings, plays, meetings, cafe's and screenings.
This year only, KIT has been defined as a company are worthy of note by The Huffington Post, we had a wonderful, successful run of Tosca e le altre due, we continued to tour with our one-woman-shows on Italian characters and with Toto's events, and we had two sold-out readings of Gomorrah, the play conceived by Roberto Saviano and Mario Gelardi.
Our next adventure is all about this play. We are, in fact, working on bringing Gomorrah on stage in 2011. It's very important to keep talking about a reality that concerns the entire world, and theater is still a place where to bring such themes, presenting and discussing them.
On December 7th, 2010 at 6:30pm KIT is having a KITFundraising for Gomorrah. We need your help to bring this great piece of truth on stage. We hope you'll be able to attend. If you are not, we ask for your strong contribution, for your sure support, for your signature in a piece that should be produced, and should be produced soon.

This play presents three versions: the first one (Pasolini murdered by one person), the second one (Pasolini murdered by many people), and a third one... Pasolini murdered because he knew too much. A journey into Pasolini's life and death, into his mind and soul and his stubborn wish to always unveil the truth.
 WOMEN WITHOUT ESCAPEThree monologues by Dino BuzzatiTranslated by Natasha Lardera
KIT celebration of one of the greatest writers of the last century. Dino Buzzati, the "Italian Kafka" mostly known for the novel The Tartar Steppe, wrote these monologues in the late '50s. Yet, there is nothing of the "dolce vita" in these women trapped into their lives like passionate and proud victims of a fate they can't control.

Iride and Emilia have applauded and praised by audience and critics. Now, they are looking to travel the world... or at least the US to bring laughter, drama and a but of Roma around.
Of course, there are also Professor Margherita with A,B,C L'Italiano s'impara cosi', Toto' with his wonderful career and life, Ennio Flaiano, Edoardo Migliaccio and so many more... all, in the only Italian Cultural KIT... Kairos Italy Theater!

KIT's mission is to create a cultural exchange program between Italy, the US and the international community, to unveil artistic and creative sides of these two countries to the world.
In the States, Kairos Italy Theater is dedicated to spreading the Italian Culture and to creating an Italian Cultural Network in order to support and further increase the knowledge of Italy in the States.

According to ancient Greeks, Kairos was the god of the "fleeting moment," "a favorable opportunity opposing the fate of man." Such a moment must be grasped (by the tuft of hair on the personified forehead of the fleeting opportunity); otherwise the moment is gone and cannot be re-captured (personified by the back of head being bald). A concept similar to Kairos is that behind the famous motto "Carpe Diem" and a sort of recurrence in the idea of Kairos is linked with the theme of The Wheel of Fortune, which continuously rotates.
Once upon a time... KIT!
Many years ago (I was still in Italy) I have started my own theatre company with some friends, all actors like me. We decided to call us with the temporary name of Le Gramaglie, which was fun, but didn't feel completely right. Then one day, in Rome (my city), while I was walking through an exhibition dedicated to the Greek sculptor Lysippos, I have discovered a fascinated figure, Kairos, which Lysippos replicated a lot.
Kairos was a semi-god, with a lot of hair in the forehead while completely bold in the back. He symbolized the right occasion grabbed at the right moment: in fact, you can grab it when it's coming (the hair in the forehead), but when it's gone, you won't catch it anymore... I found the concept to be beautiful, an hymn to life lived at full, an exhortation to grab the chance, even when it looks risky, just because your heart says that is the right one.
This is the very simple reason I have called my company Kairos, and when I have came to the States, I have just added Italy to better show what the company was about. After so many years, I can say that I was right: I took many chances, and I still do, and it's still very beautiful and rewarding!
