So many new KIT events...
Dear KIT friends,
While I am still dreaming about the beautiful experience of Tosca, KIT is moving towards new events.
KITCAFFE' in Montclair is continuing its run, and soon new dates for KITCAFFE' in Manhattan will be announced.
Also, I am working on KIT new exciting series KIT PROJECT: ITALIAN THEATRE IN TRANSLATION. the series will open May 3rd at the Flea, the great Off-Off theatre located in Tribeca. The Flea welcomed the idea of a series of readings of Italian plays translated in English, and so now they are our partner in KIT new adventure.
I am also working in bringing Tosca e le altre due back on stage, and not only in NY. I hope to have soon news about the show that gave all of us so much joy and great reviews (see below, if you have missed them).
Finally, the web-site is moving forward, and very soon, before the end of March, it will be full of contents, images, and even videos.
E questo e' quanto per ora,
Ciao, Laura & KIT

Kairos Italy Theater

KIT's mission is to create a cultural exchange program between Italy, the US and the international community, to unveil artistic and creative sides of these two countries to the world. In the States, Kairos Italy Theater is dedicated to spreading the Italian Culture and to creating an Italian Cultural Network in order to support and further increase the knowledge of Italy in the States.
Kairos According to ancient Greeks, Kairos was the god of the "fleeting moment," "a favorable opportunity opposing the fate of man." Such a moment must be grasped (by the tuft of hair on the personified forehead of the fleeting opportunity); otherwise the moment is gone and cannot be re-captured (personified by the back of head being bald). A concept similar to Kairos is that behind the famous motto "Carpe Diem" and a sort of recurrence in the idea of Kairos is linked with the theme of The Wheel of Fortune, which continuously rotates.
Once upon a time... KIT!
Many years ago (I was still in Italy) I have started my own theatre company with some friends, all actors like me. We decided to call us with the temporary name of Le Gramaglie, which was fun, but didn't feel completely right. Then one day, in Rome (my city), while I was walking through an exhibition dedicated to the Greek scolptur Lysippos, I have discovered a fascinated figure, Kairos, which Lysippos replicated a lot.
Kairos was a semi-god, with a lot of hair in the forehead while completely bold in the back. He simbolized the right occasion grabbed at the right moment: in fact, you can grab it when it's coming (the hair in the forehead), but when it's gone, you won't catch it anymore... I found the concept to be beautiful, an hymn to life lived at full, an exhortation to grab the chance, even when it looks risky, just because your heart says that is the right one.
This is the very simple reason I have called my company Kairos, and when I have came to the States, I have just added Italy to better show what the company was about. After so many years, I can say that I was right: I took many chances, and I still do, and it's still very beautiful and rewarding!
