Discover Italian Literature with KIT!
Sunday October 25th, 2009 KITCAFFE'@the cell the cell 338 W 23rd Street 6:30-8:30pm
To celebrate the Italian Month, KITCAFFE' will bring you back to the 60s, to discover everything you should know about LA DOLCE VITA, and you don't yet...
Focus on Dolce Vita's authors: Ennio Flaiano + Tullio Pinelli + Federico Fellini
Writer, essayist, playwright and screenwriter Ennio Flaiano will bring us in Via Veneto in the 60s. Ennio Flaiano was friend and collaborator of Tullio Pinelli, Federico Fellini among many others. With them, he spent legendary nights in Via Veneto, and with them he co-wrote masterpieces such as La Dolce Vita, Cabiria Night's, I Vitelloni, La Strada, 8 e 1/2.
To celebrate the most famous Italian lifestyle as well as the collaboration among these three artists, we'll read pages from I Diari di Via Veneto (The Via Veneto Papers) by Ennio Flaiano, and from the screenplay of La Strada by Flaiano, Pinelli and Fellini.
All the readings are presented in English followed by the Italian version.

Kairos Italy Theater

KIT's mission is to create a cultural exchange program between Italy, the US and the international community, to unveil artistic and creative sides of these two countries to the world. In the States, Kairos Italy Theater is dedicated to spreading the Italian Culture and to creating an Italian Cultural Network in order to support and further increase the knowledge of Italy in the States.
Kairos According to ancient Greeks, Kairos was the god of the "fleeting moment," "a favorable opportunity opposing the fate of man." Such a moment must be grasped (by the tuft of hair on the personified forehead of the fleeting opportunity); otherwise the moment is gone and cannot be re-captured (personified by the back of head being bald). A concept similar to Kairos is that behind the famous motto "Carpe Diem" and a sort of recurrence in the idea of Kairos is linked with the theme of The Wheel of Fortune, which continuously rotates.
