LAURA AND MARTA IN...
Tuesday June 16 @ 6pm Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo'
(24 W 12th Street)
The Italian Body by and with Marta Mondelli followed by A,B,C l'Italiano S'Impara Cosi' by and with Laura Caparrotti
The Italian Body by and with Marta Mondelli explores the Italian body "dictionary" (giving useful examples of typical expressions and projecting images on power point) and explains its origin back to the Carnival and the masks of Commedia dell'Arte. In English.
Italians: they have a gift for communication. Gestures are the way we accompany words and sometimes substitute them. Maybe it's our DNA: from the Greek theater (imported to Italy before the Romans) to Commedia dell'Arte, whose masks went to the streets with the Carnival every year, and with them the movements of the body and the different gestures that each mask had. To be masked, even in everyday life like in the Venice of XVIII century, meant to be using the body to express what the face couldn't do. That's the origin of our "Italian body".A, B, C, L'Italiano s'Impara Cosi' (How to learn Italian in one hour) by and with Laura Caparrotti with the help of Dante and some others writers, several Italian songs and a multi-dialect sketch created by the great Uberto Kovacevich.
A very unique method used by Miss Margherita, a despotic Teacher-Diva, to teach Italian and to explain how Italy is one Nation, yet composed by many different regions, and different, very different people.
The show brings you through Italy, exploring the stereotypical figures for which Italy is more known around the world: A=Amore (LOVE) - B= Buono (good like Italian FOOD) - C=Citta' (CITIES - including Italian dialects). Through theater, poetry, music (from the old Italian songs to the most contemporary hits) and a lot of images, ABC... plays with history, traditions, the variety of the Italian language AND with the audience. The show stops in SIX cities chosen to be Italy's best testimonials for differences and similarities: Bolzano, Milano, Firenze, Roma, Napoli, and Palermo. In Italian and English.
No RSVP required!
Free entrance, lot of fun and a final brindisi!
