World TB Day 24 March
World TB Day, falling on March 24th each year, is designed to build public awareness that tuberculosis today remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the deaths of several million people each year, mostly in developing countries. March 24th commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch astounded the scientific community by announcing that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. At the time of Koch's announcement in Berlin, TB was raging through Europe and the Americas, causing the death of one out of every seven people. Koch's discovery opened the way towards diagnosing and curing TB.

The Department of Mineral Resources (the DMR) released the revised Broad Based Socio-Economic Empowerment Charter for the South African Mining and Minerals Industry. The most far reaching change is that non-compliance with the revised Mining Charter will amount to a breach of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (the MPRDA) resulting in the suspension or cancellation of licences granted under the Act. The first report is due March 2011, are you ready to submit? If uncertain or in doubt let us audit your Social and Labour Plan and assist you to submit your report. Click here for more information |
