Proposed Labour Law Amendments Breakfast

Workinfo.com will be hosting several breakfast sessions on the Proposed Labour Law Amendments.

The following will be discussed:

  • Presumption against fixed-term contracts.
  • Extension of benefits to atypical labour.
  • Status of Labour Courts.
  • Second generation outsourcing and s197 amendments.
  • Earnings threshold for access to CCMA.
  • So-called "Clients" of Labour Brokers liable for unfair labour practices.
  • Pay parity incorporated into legislation.
  • Minister to set actual wage increases instead of minimum wages only.
  • Fines and penalties for non-compliance, AND some contraventions criminalised.
  • Economically active population profiles and EE Goals.

While much has been said about the proposed amendments to various employment laws, not all the proposed amendments are motivated by a "political agenda". Some of the proposals are designed to give effect to South Africa's international obligations whilst others are meant to give effect to the provisions of the Constitution.

Included in the Workshop will be a review of the Risk Impact Analysis requested by the Department of Labour and an overview of the conclusions reached in this report.

Programme:

07:30 - 08:00 - Registration

08:00 - 09:00 - Breakfast

09:00 - 10:30 - Presentation

10:30 - 11:00 - Tea

11:00 - 12:30 -  Presentation

12:30 - 13:00 - Question session
