PUBLIC HOLIDAY - WEDNESDAY 22 APRIL 2009 (VOTING DAY) In terms of the Public Holidays Act, Wednesday 22 April 2009 has been declared as a public holiday and has been gazetted under Proclamation No. 17, 2009 in Government Gazette 32039 dated 19 March 2009. Please bear the following in mind regarding this public holiday:
- Anyone agreeing to work on this day is entitled to double pay in terms of the Basic Conditions of Employment.
- We recommend that organisations schedule their work rosters in advance to take into account time off for employees to vote.
- Most voters are registered to vote in their home towns and this could have travel implications for employees who are working on this day.
The 2009 elections represent another important milestone in South Africa's progress on the path of democracy. Employers are encouraged to afford their employees time off for voting and to allow all South African's the opportunity to reinforce the very foundation of our constitution - the right to vote. |
Not enough time - here's how to find the time you need.

MD - Workinfo.com Welcome to April - the month with the least working days of the year. This month you have 4 public holidays but this also means that you have 4 less days to do the same amount of work. If you are in HR, well then - you are going to be very busy... Somehow we all need to accomplish the same number of tasks and meet the same targets in a month that has been shortened by 4 productive days.
