Associate member Innovative Labeling Solutions (ILS) has installed the world's first complete inline digital print production line. The inline configuration is the next step in the company increasing its ability to meet the needs of the growing consumer packaged goods market. 

 

 "We were excited to be a part of the beta test of the In line Priming unit (ILP) for the HP WS6000 to see what it would do to improve operational and economic efficiencies, " said Brian Smallwood, ILS general manager. The In Line priming unit is a press hardware option that enables on-demand treatment of substrates to streamline manufacturing as well as lower the material treatment costs associated with digital by virtually eliminating the machine and labor costs associated with priming.

PMMI has announced a call for nominations to the Packaging Hall of Fame, Class of 2012. "The Packaging Hall of Fame is among the highest honors a packaging professional can achieve-an honor that's magnified by the fact that nominees' names are submitted by their peers and vetted by a commission of industry leaders," says Maria Ferrante, vp, education & workforce development, PMMI.

Study compares bio-based plastics

 

A qualitative analysis of bio-based plastics, conducted by the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production, University of Massachusetts-Lowell, has reviewed existing literature on the environmental, health, and safety impacts of bio-based plastics, their environmental, health, and safety impacts through LCA information and plots them on an Avoid/Preferred spectrum.

Fitment Technology: Pouch Innovation Equals Solid Solutions

 

According to market research firm Mintel, stand-up pouches are growing by 6 percent globally in the food and beverage, beauty and home industries, with food representing the largest share and highest growth.
