Let's Face It: Growth Requires Risk

 

Sterling Contract Packaging Inc. of Spartanburg, SC has grown from a single 30,000 square-foot location in 1996 to 107,200 square feet in two facilities in 2012. That huge growth in only fifteen years did not result from doing a lot more of the same thing, but from taking the risk of offering new services for its customers--namely, supply chain management.

 

"Sterling CPI grew out of a need in 1996 by a local company's to outsource its manufacturing," says Sterling president and CEO Michael Hastings. "When we started the company, our focus was specifically on what we considered to be contract packaging. Today, we have a much broader focus on overall supply chain responsibilities."

Videojet 1710 Ink Jet Printer Combines High-Contrast Codes with Low Maintenance

For applications that require easily readable variable data codes on dark or difficult to mark materials, Videojet Technologies Inc. has designed the new Videojet® 1710 small character continuous ink jet printer. 

 

The printer uses high-contrast, pigmented inks to create bright, clean codes on surfaces for which dye-based inks are not effective, such as colored glass, rubber tubing, plastic cabling and dark paperboard. It is capable of printing a variety of fonts in multiple languages, as well as linear bar codes, 2D DataMatrix codes, custom logos and graphics.

Earth Day study: Most shoppers won't pay more for green packaging


It's gotten a lot harder to be "green." RetailMeNot.com, an online coupon site, revealed in an Earth Day-inspired edition of the Shoppers Trend Report that while 46 percent of respondents are more inclined to buy a product if it is eco-friendly, the majority of respondents (59 percent) are unwilling to pay more money for that eco-friendly product or service.
