The 2011 Contract Packaging State of the Industry Report indicates that, since the beginning of the economic downturn in 2008-2009, there has been considerable consolidation of the number of co-packers (through mergers and acquisitions). However, the report also points out that in the intervening years the number of companies active in this industry has increased. This must-own report is an indespensible tool and contains never before released information relating to the business/service of contract packaging and how it will continue to grow in the future. Click here to continue reading. Inaugural CPA Fall WorkShop Is a Success The inaugural CPA 2011 Fall WorkShop took place at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare Hotel on November 7-8. A total of 107 attendees took part in sessions, networking gatherings and a tour of the facilities of the Frain Group. Attendees also networked with their peers and viewed tabletop displays of products and services presented by Associate Members.  Data Report Outlines Growing U.S. Nutraceutical Market
A nutraceutical market report from UBM Canon Data Products estimates that the U.S. nutraceutical market will reach $180 billion in 2017, maintaining a compound annual growth rate of over 7% through 2015. Titled "Nutraceuticals and Vitamins Review and Outlook 2011," the report cites an aging population, increased prevalence of serious diseases, and ongoing interest in preventative medicine as reasons for market growth.

Food recalls in the third quarter affected nearly six times as many units as the previous three-month period, according to the quarterly ExpertRECALL Index. The Index also found that pharmaceutical and medical device recalls increased while recalls for children's and infants' products and consumer goods hit surprising five-quarter lows.
US demand for flexible packaging to exceed $18 billion
Demand for converted flexible packaging is projected to increase 3.8% annually to $18.2 billion in 2015. Gains will be similar to the pace of the 2005-2010 period based on the well-established presence of pouches in a number of food and nonfood markets coupled with overall deceleration in raw material price growth.
