Voices of the Industry: Do You Know Your OEE Score?
Most of us have heard the acronym "OEE," but not all of us fully understand the concept behind the name, or what it can mean to the improvement of how efficiently our operations run. According to well-known packaging consultant John Henry, OEE stands for Overall Equipment Efficiency, and it is a method of precisely measuring how efficient your production equipment, production lines and facility are. Efficiency is about doing things right, while another measurement he focuses on as a consultant--Effectiveness--is also important. Effectiveness is about doing the right things, another challenge.

Contract packaging service providers often try to capitalize on their investment in packaging machinery that may have been obtained in order to service one buyer or one contract. Once the contract is underway, the packaging service company may seek other contracts that will allow it to package similar products.

Western Europe, the U.S., and Japan will account for more than 70% of pharmaceutical packaging demand that will drive a 5.5% annual expansion to $62 billion in 2015. That's the forecast from World Pharmaceutical Packaging, a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc.

CPA to discuss State of the Industry at Pack Expo Las Vegas
Whether you're a contract packager or a product manufacturer using contract packaging services, if you're going to Pack Expo Las Vegas, September 26-28, the Contract Packaging Association's session at the IoPP Learning Center Conference will give you critical updates for doing business more efficiently in 2011 and beyond. Chris Nutley, a CPA board member, will share preliminary findings and new areas of discovery from the association's forthcoming State of the Industry Report. Data collection has just been completed. Chris will also discusss current CP industry drivers and will conduct a Q&A with Dennis Mouzakis, National Supply Chain Manager at Rockstar, Inc. They will focus on how the beverage marketer leverages contract packaging to become in industry leader in the energy drink category. This session is taking place on September 28 at 12:45 p.m.

Sharpen your staff's packaging skills with IoPP's "Fundamentals" course
The Fundamentals of Packaging Technology, the well-received educational program in packaging from IoPP (the Institute of Packaging Professionals), is coming to Atlanta for the first time this fall. Contract packaging service providers and related companies that need more training in particular areas of packaging can sharpen their skills, and newcomers can gain a well-rounded look at the packaging profession. The program covers all aspects of packaging, with three-day sessions in late September and late October.
