Important Tourism Regulation | |
Since the implementation of the Tourism Occupancy Tax in 2003, there has been controversy regarding the application of the Occupancy Tax and sales tax as it applies to some businesses in the accommodations segment, but not all. The term "condotels" has been used to describe this type of accommodations. The NJ Division of Taxation is proposing the attached regulation that will expand the requirement to remit sales and occupancy tax on these type of properties and operational structures if certain services are provided such as linen and maid service. As this topic is of particular interest to members of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce specifically in the lodging industry and is important to all tourism related businesses, you are encouraged to submit your comments during the 60 day comment period to: Mitchell C. Smith, Administrative Practice Officer, Division of Taxation, 50 Barrack Street, P.O. Box 269, Trenton, NJ 08695-0269. Please provide a copy of your comments to the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce so that we can gain a consensus of opinion of our members. The deadline for submitting comments is September 16, 2011.
