Happenings at Jack and Adam's
Texas Tri Series & Bike Skills Courses
It may feel like the tri season is in full-swing, but there is still time to be a part of the Texas Tri Series! If you participated in the Rookie Tri or the Skeese Greets Tri by racing or volunteering, you can register to compete or volunteer for the Couples Tri on July 11. You'll be eligible for tons of great prizes and an awesome finisher party to celebrate the completion of the season, to be held this year at the beautiful downtown Hyatt Regency. Whether you choose to participate as a volunteer or an athlete in each of these events, you will be honored for completing this challenging series!
Have you purchased a bike from J&A? Join us for a free one-hour skills course offered by the knowledgeable folks at Austin Cycle Camp. The AVIA Austin Tri & My Fox Fit Ride
If you are looking for an exciting early-fall event, then look no further than the AVIA Austin Tri. Winding through beautiful downtown Austin, the Austin Tri offers a $5000 prize purse that both pros and age-groupers are eligible to win, live bands on the run and bike course and a fantastic post-race party with great food and tons of additional prizes. Come join one of America's most active cities in an event you'll never forget!
Join Fox 7 and J&A for the Fox 7 Fit Ride, held at the Rough Hollow Yacht Club on Saturday, July 24th. This free bike ride will be a fun challenging ride through the hills of Rough Hollow. An aid station will be set up at one point of each loop. The course is a 6 mile ride that you may repeat to make your route of 6, 12, or 18 miles. The ride will start at 10 a.m. and finish with a post race party at the Fox 7 Fit Weekend Health & Fitness Fair. All participants will receive on-course support, and post ride food and refreshments. This event is part of Fox 7 Fit Weekend, so come join us for running, cycling, yoga, stand-up paddling and more. Best of all - Fox 7 Fit Weekend is entirely free!

Training 101
Free Training with Jack & Adam's
Now that you have the gear, we at J&A are here to help you get out there and enjoy it. Check out our free workout schedule and join in the fun. There is no need to make appointments, get on a list or even pay a fee!
- Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30pm: 1 hour core/calisthenics class, held on the porch in front of the shop and led by coaches from Cross Fit Central.
- Tuesdays at 5:20pm: Coach Mixon Henry leads a run workout available to all levels of runners. Meet at the shop and run to the workout location.
- Sundays at 8:30am: Shop ride for all different levels of cyclist, from a 20 mile no-drop ride (meaning the ride leaders wait for the final rider) to longer, 30-50 mile rides. Join us for Taco Deli Tacos afterward! Meet in the J&A parking lot at 8:15 to prepare for 8:30 departure.
Workouts are subject to change throughout the year, so please check our website for updates or call our store for the latest info.

Mechanic's Corner
Post-Race Bicycle Maintenance
Most athletes put a great deal of thought into everything leading up to a big race (equipment, training, nutrition etc.) but many do not know what bike maintenance should be completed after a race.
In most cases, there are only a couple of things that need to be done. If they are completed as soon as you return home after the race it will keep your bike running smoothly. First, wash your bike and make sure you get all of the gels and drink residue off the bike. If these gels and liquids sit on your bike they will cause rust and can affect the finish of your bike if they are acidic enough. Click here to learn a few bike washing tips.
Also, be sure to lube your chain after you've washed your bike. Finally, switch back to your training wheels and readjust your rear derailleur to the wheel. If you're unsure about how to adjust your derailleur, click here for more information.
Once this is done you are ready to start riding again without any mechanical issues.
