5 Steps Towards a More Secure Environment by Carol Woodbury
Co-founder, President & CTO, SkyView Partners, Inc.
Given the lack of direction and policies for examining security configuration settings on an ongoing basis, it's no wonder that companies have security issues - both from outside attacks as well as insider threats and probably more prevalent, accidental errors caused by users having too much authority. Let's look at 5 ways you can create a more secure environment. Step 1 of 5 Many organizations blame programmers when an incident occurs for not creating secure applications or for not using technology that would have protected the organization. There are several problems with this approach. First, during the development of applications, many organizations level no security requirements on the application design. Couple this with the fact the most programmers cringe at the very word "security" and it's no surprise that security features aren't designed into most applications. If you want to protect your organization's data, you have to insert application security requirements into the development process. In addition, you have to provide the development team with the appropriate education and tools to enable them to design and properly test the security aspects of their application. |

Attaining and Maintaining the Compliance Lifestyle
With the realization that compliance laws and regulations, like PCI DSS, are not going away, compliance needs to become a way of life; that is, part of your organization's "lifestyle." What we've discovered is that, once our customers passed their audit, they kicked back and relaxed until notice of the next audit came around. Unfortunately, when that happens, a lot of things fall out of compliance.
In this session, SkyView Partners' Vice President J. D. Seal will describe how to accomplish "compliance as a lifestyle" by providing tips on knowing what you have to be in compliance with. J. D. will also talk about the steps you can take to avoid falling out of compliance. Finally, J. D. will show how you can use SkyView Partners' products to "Attain and Maintain the Compliance Lifestyle."
