Social Media is Social Capital  

I believe that Social Media is part of our Evolutionary Awakening. Never before has there been so much transparency in the world of business, and never before has the veil been so thin between personal and professional profiles.   

Within social networks, a new economy is at work, and it's not based on hyper-consumption.  

Rather it's a gift economy, or as Fast Company has framed it:  A Sharing Economy.  We are what YOU share.

Your participation in social media is much more than just individual bits you choose to share. As the online universe expands and merges with our offline lives, a whole ecosystem has emerged- an ecosystem nourished with generosity, identity, empathy, and authenticity.   

We are rapidly moving from competition to cooperation in our business models. And it's all about showing up and with engaging your customers, clients, employees, employers, and communities.

It's much more than a Facebook profile.

I have been voraciously digesting the works of Barbara Marx Hubbard

for the past few years and am delighted to see her life's work now available to everyone in an unpredented on-line training: The Agents of Conscious Evolution (ACE) that launched this week.

Many prophecies concur that the time for a planetary shift has arrived. Put simply, to make the Shift, humanity now needs to move from a largely unconscious evolution to fully conscious evolution, The Agents of Conscious Evolution (ACE) Training is about supercharging your deepest soul purpose and empowering you to be an evolutionary agent in the world WITH a global network of allies who share a vision for a new co-creative human society for the year 2012 and for decades beyond. No small task, and, indeed, it is time! 

Along with Barbara's work and the rapidly growing EVOLVER on-line community, (now also hosting regional meetings), I feel like I have finally arrived home!

Creating a Culture of Engagement 

I like this story:

A CEO was walking down the hallway of the hospital he managed one day and came across the janitor working. He stopped to talk with him for a few moments and eventually he asked the janitor what he did.  

The janitor stopped, turned to the CEO with a completely serious look and replied, "I save lives." The CEO was taken aback. What was this guy talking about? He's the janitor, not a heart surgeon.  

He continued, "See, when I do my job well and clean

the operating rooms and other work areas, the doctors have a sanitary, safe place to do their work. I clean things, yes, but in the bigger scheme of things, I'm helping to save lives."

This is a perfect example of engagement in the workplace. This janitor saw his role as contributing to the bigger vision and mission of the hospital (to save lives).   

In the past year, " Engagement" has become  the "buzz word" among organizational leaders, everywhere. 
Enterprises are recognizing that their people need to be "engaged" in the bigger picture by: 

• Seeing and understanding their contribution to the  mission and vision of the company.  
• Participating in on-going feedback (where everyone is encouraged to share their ideas and opinions honestly)   
• Feeling trusted, respected, and appreciated 
• Having fun along with a sense of purpose beyond the job description.
