Hot, Flat, and Crowded:
Why We Need a Green Revolution--and How It Can Renew America
by Thomas L. Friedman

SUMMER TIME GREETINGS!

I trust your summer has been full and abundant, celebrating the richness of your manifestations, creations, changes, and transitions.

What am I celebrating?

Living and breathing in the beauty that surrounds me as I continue to unfold possibilities with the amazing people I meet in these times of accelerated change.

In May, I attended the Book Expo of America in Los Angeles, where I attended sessions and panels addressing Web 2.0 and digital publishing trends, and "One-Stop Shop" self-publishing services.

Among the many sessions, I was delighted to meet
Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas Friedman, author of Hot, Flat, and Crowded, Tyson Miller, Director of the Green Press Initiative and Julie Salisbury from Inspire a Book. Julie and I will be presenting a session for non-fiction writers at the Writing for Change conference in San Francisco on Sunday, Aug. 17.

I continue to consult with CEO Women new entrepreneurs and other clients on their marketing and business development plans.
And, I am expanding my High Performance Human Resource Management two-day seminar into a full 16-week on-line course to be launched by CARAT's Executive Leadership Institute in 2009.

Other recent highlights include "Being" in a 10-day meditation retreat at Joshua Tree with Spirit Rock foundi
ng teachers and participating in the Global Facilitators' Gathering of the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Initiative.

I'm inspired. I feel change everywhere.  I'd love to hear what you are celebrating!

In heartfelt collaboration,

Shera

Turning the Wheel
Real change begins with oneself

The Global Gathering aligned and re-ignited in me what really is important - and what I am committed to- on  a personal, professional, and collective level.  Our featured guest speakers included Lynne Twist, Brian Swimme, Joanna Macy, among others, along with a deeply personal message from Van Jones, founder of Ella Baker Center for Social Justice and the national Green Jobs for All initiative.

"Be Strong without Apology.
Face up to your difficulties
and break through them.

Dare to be Naïve.
Crisis is not to be wasted."
-Van Jones

We don't have all the answers, and  in fact, we may or may not be successful in creating the personal and collective changes that must take place now.

However, if we focus our actions on cooperation, not competition, on doing more with less, (and perhaps on DOING less and BEING more), heal our addictions to consumption, and re-claim the role of world citizen founded on interdependence and respect for the dignity of all life,we will "turn the wheel" towards sustainable actions and solutions in our businesses and personal lives.

Turning the Wheel

WHAT can I start doing today and the rest of the year
to bring more cooperation and collaboration into our company culture, our teams, client relations, and communities?

WHO am I mentoring? WHO are my mentors?

WHO are my "EmPower partners?" Is there a team,
a social network, forum, panel, or consortium that
can be formed with  "competitors"?

WHAT is my role and contribution to the "Great Turning"?

In just a few short years, The Awakening the Dreamer Initiative has grown exponentially with contributions from experts and leading thinkers from around the world!  We now have an international team of professional facilitators that can offer the symposium in two hour, half-day or full-day formats.

For more information on experiencing the Symposium tailored specially for your company or organization, click here. I will contact you with more information.

It is, indeed, an incredible time to be alive!

Earlier this summer, I had a meeting with the Director of Organizational Learning at an international software digital printing company. In our conversation, she reminded me that as entrepreneurs and business leaders, we choose our clients.

She, of course, was referring to focused intention and the laws of attraction.

Are you attracting clients and contributing to initiatives that
set you on fire with purpose?

As leaders, one of the key evaluative questions we need to continually ask ourselves and fine tune is "What ARE our values"?
"What DO we stand for? What ARE we committed to? How do we translate that into our businesses and value for our clients?"

How can we develop our "relational capital" to attract and serve the clients who will benefit most from what we offer (the intangible values and commitment, and the tangible products/services)? What are our clients' values and needs? Can we find the answers to these questions in  our business models?

Recently, I came across an article in The Sun magazine where I was re-introduced to the business model Judy Wicks, co-founder of BALLE, utilized to develop the White Dog Cafe in Philadelphia.
