This week's focus point - Your audience. The National Football League is embroiled in an ugly, and potentially damaging, labor situation where the owners have locked out the players. As you can imagine, the bottom line is about money - who has how much and who wants more. Both sides are posturing and blaming the other side for letting it get this far. Both sides have forgotten who their audience is. In a $9B (that's right b as in billion) business, both owners and players have forgotten who makes it possible for them to play football. The fans, the sponsors, the television networks, the vendors, the sports bars, the restaurants, the ticket brokers, etc. All these shareholders and more are the big losers if games are lost. Organizations and individuals also forget their audience too often. Organizations lose track of who they serve and why they serve them. They can stop listening and just impose. Individuals forget that it's not about them, but it's about their client's best interest. Think I'm wrong? Check out Wall Street for the past 24 months. If you're a speaker, be careful not to forget your audience. You are there to improve their condition, not to hear yourself talk. The NFL's situation should be a lesson to all of us in business and in life. Remember who your audience is and focus in like a laser on how you can improve their condition. This week's quote -"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing. That is why we recommend it daily."- Zig Ziglar
