This week's focus point - Self-esteem. I guess I've finally arrived... I've been on the school board for my district for about a year and a half and I've finally got people who don't like me. That's alright. I understand it comes with the territory. In fact, there's an old saying that if you're not ticking someone off (insert whatever colloquialism you'd like) then you're not doing your job. Leadership isn't about making friends. It's about advancing your organization, your people, and your mission. Sometimes decisions are unpopular. Heck, every four years, nearly 50% of the people aren't happy with the choice for president! However, if you have the best intentions in mind for your organization, then you must make the best decision you can with the information you have at the time, and then ultimately stand behind it. This takes a high degree of self-esteem. Self-esteem as defined by me means having the knowledge that no matter what others say or insinuate about you; no matter how many times you're rejected; and no matter the pain, that you KNOW in your heart that you're a good person and the right person for the job. Self-esteem is difficult for many folks. What about you? Do you have the power of self-esteem working for or against you? This week's quote -"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."- Pablo Picasso
