This week's focus point -
pearl harbor
If you've followed my work through blogs and these weekly editions of Extra Points, you will know I'm a history buff. In fact, it was my major in college at the University of Washington.

Tomorrow is the 69th anniversary of the "Day that will live in infamy." I wonder as we get further away from it, if it really is. President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed these words on December 7, 1941, hours after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, sinking our ships and taking the lives of hundreds. This was an influential day for me because it spurred my father on to join the Navy and fight in the war. Had he not done that, he would have never met my mother and I wouldn't be here. For so many, however, December 7, 1941 was as devastating as what September 11, 2001 is for my generation.

It's officially "National Pearl Harbor Day," and you are encouraged to fly your flag at business and home at half-mast in memory of those who lost their lives that morning. I hope you will help to keep alive the spirit and remembrance of this day.

This week's quote -"Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."
- William Shakespeare
