This week's focus point - Judging Others.
I was reading a thread last week on a Facebook page I follow where the topic was on how we as humans often make quick, initial judgments on others. The contributors on this thread bandied about ideas and opinions, yet pretty much agreed that this ends up being the case for good, bad, or indifferent.
Here's my rule of thumb best taught to me by Alan Weiss - Never assume the other person is damaged until they give you reason to think so. Baseless judgments on people as aloof, arrogant, mean-spirited, or unintelligent are rarely correct. There are too many factors in play to make those kinds of assumptions initially or even after developing a relationship. The best action is to assume that the person you are interacting with is someone you would like to know or do business with, and give them every chance to prove it.
This week's quote -"Nothing is so strong as gentleness; nothing so gentle as real strength." - St. Francis De Sales
