This week's focus point - Integrity.
Last week, the PGA Tour event was held at Hilton Head, SC and Jim Furyk took the championship. The image to the right his him shaking hands with runner-up Brian Davis. Furyk won the tournament in sudden-death when Davis called a penalty...on himself.
Davis ticked a loose reed on the backswing of his second shot. Nobody saw it but him. He immediately knew it was a violation and called a two-stroke penalty on himself. That penalty cost him the tournament. Furyk is a multiple champion; Brian Davis has never won a tour event.
Integrity is what you do when nobody else is looking. Davis could have gone on without saying anything and may have won the tournament. However, in his words, he said he wouldn't have been able to live with himself.
You learn a lot about someone on the golf course. Davis showed he has integrity. He's the type of person you want to do business with. Makes you wonder in the day-to-day, often cut-throat world of business, how many people live up to that same level of integrity?
The ones that do end up the true victors in the end...just like Brian Davis.
This week's quote -"It is good sportsmanship to not pick up a lost golf ball while it is still rolling."Mark Twain
