This week's focus point - As you are reading this memo, I'm somewhere between Seattle and New York. I'm heading to the Big Apple to finish my training with Alan Weiss as a member of his Master Mentor program. Not only am I excited about meeting with Alan, but this is my first trip to New York and I'm anxious to check it out.

One of the things I've always equated with New York is confidence. Some may call it brashness, arrogance, or even just plain rude. Maybe. But, there's no mistaking that confidence is king when it comes to business and life.

Lack of self-confidence holds us back from a lot of things that can help us professionally and personally. For instance - public speaking, calling on a prospect, taking a risk to start your business, losing weight, or learning a new language. The one common denominator of successful people is that they all have a strong self-esteem. All of us should. We all have gifts that we can be proud of and that can help people. We just need to have the utmost confidence in ourselves.  As Alan Weiss has often said, "The first sale is to yourself."
