This week's focus point - One of my hobbies is being a community sports blogger for the local daily newspaper in our county. I tend to be provocative, challenging, and opinionated. Recently, I got a comment on one of my posts where I had mentioned my disdain for soccer. Ironically, I was looking for a guest writer to occasionally give me tidbits of information on the sport. She was upset that I spoke negatively of a sport where we have a semi-professional team in the county. She wanted me to follow the bromide, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Great for Disney movies, but not blogs. The whole point of blogs is to get people to read and react. Apathy is the enemy. She proved my point by simply responding. Especially on a topic like sports, you must make some waves or you will end up being insignificant.

Same as life. We aren't here to dip our toes in the water. We are here to make waves. Don't be paralyzed by fear or analysis. Take calculated risks. Be bold. Don't be afraid to rock the boat. The greatest successes have come from those who sometimes failed, yet persevered because they were not afraid to "splash."

Just like investing, the time to act is when everyone else is fearful. No time like the present - make waves!

This week's quote - "If you're not failing, you're not trying."  Alan Weiss
