This week's focus point - I enjoy watching the Winter Olympics because I get to watch sports and athletes I never have a chance to see otherwise.  Last Monday, Canadian mogul skier Alexandre Bilodeau captured his countries first ever gold medal on home soil. The greater story, however was his relationship with his older brother, Frederic. who has cerebral palsy. In an interview with CBC, Bilodeau noted that his brother was his inspiration because every time he thought about "having" to go train, he realized that Frederic didn't "get" that chance. He did.  It was a poignant and moving tribute.

What do we as business professionals "get" to do?  Work hard, market our business, make calls, do projects, make money, help others?  Often, I believe we get in a rut about "having" to do things, when we should be thinking we "get" to do them.

How about our personal life?  Do we "get" to exercise, spend time with our family, walk the dogs, or even take out the trash?  By changing that one word - "have" to "get" - it makes a huge difference in our attitude.

Do you think, feel, and do in "have to" or "get to" mode?

This week's quote - "The time will come when winter will ask what you were doing all summer."  Henry Clay, American Statesman
