It is hard to believe that we have entered into 2011. Being away for over a week has put me behind but I should be caught up now. It has been awhile since my last newsletter but my goal for 2011 is to write to you at least once a month. That was a great goal as I was writing the newsletter in January-now it is February when it is going out.
Why was I away for a week? I was in California where I got to see the new yarns, book and accessories for spring. Going to trade shows is always exciting and gets me planning for the upcoming season.
Over the next month we will be busy rearranging the store to accommodate shipments of spring yarns, patterns and accessories from: -Rowan -Berroco -Sirdar -Namaste -Noro -Madelinetosh
Don't forget to watch my blog as well. I try to write daily posts and this will also keep you up to date on what is new and exciting.
"Artful touches, clever construction and as always, figure flattering silhouettes. Knit in sea glass inspired shades of cool cottons and soft linens."
This is Nidden knit in Linsey-a new cotton/linen blend for spring. "Nidden is constructed in a novel way--the fronts also form the collar and a good portion of the back. Delicate lace adorns the fronts, the cuffs and the center back."
Pawtucket is also knit in Linsey. "A cure for cardigan burnout, this innovative cardigan makes use of negative space and a technique borrowed from leather weaving."
64% Cotton and 36% Linen 104m on a 50gram hank 20 stitches=4" on 4.5mm needles $8.75 a hank The yarn is in the store and we have a sample hanging.
Many of us (me included) finish sewing up a sweater and put it on right away. The pattern always says to block the pieces before sewing them together but we are in a hurry so we just miss that step.
The scarf pictured was knit by Emma for the store. By blocking the scarf, the lace pattern lies perfectly flat. Especially with lace knitting the garment looks very small when finished. Blocking will stretch out the garment to the finished size it is supposed to be.
There are many different techniques for blocking. Here are some interesting articles to read on the different techniques and the tools you will need.
