Lots of Finishers! Congratulations!
This is the completion incentive--cool!
|
There is more and more evidence of pepole nearing the finish line! Keep up the good work!
You are added to the list when you have completed the
evaluation in Thing 23. It may take a day or two to show up on the Finishers list, but you will get there.
If you do not do the evaluation, we don't have a record of your completion. There are a few mysterious finishers who did the evaluation, but did not put email, blog name, or other identifier so, who are you? Let us know if you think you should be on the list and somehow got overlooked.
Keep working so we can add your blog to the list of finishers! Remember, the deadline is April 16.

Sneak Preview of the Prizes!
|
We know you can't wait to hear what the prizes will be for the lucky
winners of the big draw from the pool of those who finish by April 16.
All are related to one or more of the Things. Here's a sneak preview: Everyone who finishes receives the cool flash drive pictured in the article above.
The multitype directors will draw the winners at their quarterly meeting on April 29. We will send out an announcement to everyone with the winners' names and their blogs.
So get On the Stick so you finish by April 16 and are entered in the big draw.
Good Luck!

Questions & Answers
|
These questions have arrived via blog postings & email. The answers may help others navigate the 23 Things On a Stick.
Q. I want to go back and try all the challenges as well as review some of the Things. How long will the 23 Things On a Stick blog be available?A. At this point, pretty much indefinitely. We know people want to continue on their own, use it in their systems or schools, or just use it as reference. There may be minor changes in the text or updated links, but it will basically remain as is.

Thing 21. Beyond MySpace: Other Social Networks
|

We wanted to show you some social networks beyond MySpace
and Facebook that might interest you, so did you find any you liked in Thing
21? If the ones we listed weren't that appealing, try using Go2Web2.0, which is dubbed "The
Complete Web 2.0 Directory," to find some.
Besides finding some that you find appealing, some of these social
networks might be useful for you at work. A lot of us get genealogy questions
on an almost-daily basis, so maybe some of the genealogy social networks would
help your patrons? Show a patron how to use Geni,
GeneTree, or It's Our Tree to keep track of
their genealogy information and find family connections. Or maybe LibraryThing or What Should I Read Next?
could help with reader's advisory? TravBuddy could help
with those travel-guide-type questions.
There is a social network for everyone, so find one you
might like for yourself, but also think about your patrons. There might be
great sites out there that you could introduce them to, and now that
you're all the way to Thing 21, you'll be a pro at showing them how
to use these sites!

Thing 22. What Did I Learn Today?
|
We're in the home stretch of the 23 Things! According
to your blog posts, you have learned a lot and want to learn even more.
That's great, but we all know that keeping up with new tools and
applying them in "real life" library or personal settings can be a
challenge. Re-affirming your commitment to spending that 15 minutes a
day reading useful blogs, uploading your pictures to Flickr, creating
slideshows, or whatever you need to do is a great way to begin.
There are some suggestions for keeping up in the Thing 22 blog post and here are a few more.
- Library Journal has launched a podcast by the Library 2.0 Gang. The recent ones discuss Open Library--add the RSS to your reader to learn when new podcasts are available.
- Information Wants to Be Free author Meredith has a post on "If I had just 15 minutes a day " to keep up, how I would do it. Take her ideas and add your own for a customized learning plan to help you stay current.
- The SirsiDynix Institiute offers an ongoing forum for professional development. The Institute provides free access to industry-leading speakers and events. Upcoming speakers include Lee Raine on Maximizing the Power of the Web: Pew Internet & American Life Project's 2007 Findings.
He will include the results of the
recent Pew study showing how young people continue to use the library.
Sessions are archived on the Institute site or via iTunes. April 18, 2008 (11am-12:00 pm, Eastern) Registration - Stephen's Lighthouse is a blog by Stephen Abram, Vice President of Innovation at
SirsiDynix. He is
the current president of the Special Libraries Association. Stephen is big proponent of libraries, community, Web 2.0,
and more. He is a big thinker and prolific writer, too. His blog is definitely worth adding to your RSS reader.

Reminders & Hints
|
With the flurry of posts as the end nears, it is more important than ever that you:
- Label each post with the Thing number.
- Check your blog on the Finishers' list on the mother blog. You don't want to do all this work and not get credit for it!
