Full of Joy and Laughter, Times we'll alway treasure . . .

Dear Friends,
The 2009 summer season ended just a couple of weeks ago and we are already fully preparing for next Summer. Registration opened on September 1 for returning families and September 9 for new families.  This summer was fantastic and already can't wait until June.

I want to wish all of your families a very happy and healthy holiday season!

Sandra Bass
Director

Green Efforts
This summer we made a major push to move Camp Judaea to becoming a little more sustainable.  This is what we did:

-26 bags of trash per day were reduced to 9 by purchasing reusable meet plates and silverware as well as machine washable vinyl table cloths.

-We planted a veggie garden that we ate in our salad bar

-We learned how to compost and reduce our food waste

-We collected about 200 energy efficient light bulbs that will save camp about $10,000 in energy costs as well as reduce our carbon footprint.

Ilana Schlam leaves CJ

Dear Camp Judaea Community,

I am writing this letter with a heavy heart since I have decided to move on from my Assistant Director position with Camp Judaea. The last four years have been amazing and the memories created cannot be replaced. I have enjoyed working with each and every one of you in whatever capacity applies, and cannot explain the joy of watching the campers and staff mature and grow through the years. There is nothing like Camp Judaea and I will miss it greatly!

I also want to thank Sandra for her amazing mentoring skills, love, and friendship...it means the world to me. I would also like to welcome Lori Goldstein, my longtime friend, as the new Assistant Director. I know she will be fabulous and will create the same wonderful relationships with all of you that I have.
Thank you again for everything and keep in touch! Although I am no longer a professional employee of camp, I will always be a part of the CJ family!

Sincerely,
Ilana Schlam

Camp Judaea Ampitheater Project

Camp Judaea is experiencing a makeover, one brick at a time. We invite you to be part of a very exciting opportunity by purchasing an engraved brick to lay along the new outdoor amphitheater overlooking the lake at Camp Judaea. Leave your mark on the grounds of Camp and custom design your 8 x 8 brick for $250 and be part of a beautiful addition. Funds raised will help us make improvements to camp that will benefit campers in years to come while enhancing the beauty of camp.

The amphitheater will be an open-air venue for theatrical performances, concerts and films. The amphitheater will include a performance-style stage with the audience in front of it surrounded by ascended seating overlooking the lake.

Become a visible part of camp history by honoring a friend or family member, memorializing someone special, or just leave your name as someone who enjoyed camping at Camp Judaea in the past!

As always, we greatly appreciate your support of Camp Judaea.

Sincerely,

Michele Burger
Capital Campaign Chair

Legacy for the Generations

The Camp Judaea Board recently started a new program called Legacy for the Generations.  Legacy is our formal program to ask supporters to leave a bequest to CJ in their wills.  The success of this program will ensure the financial security of CJ.

The bequest may take many financial forms but with this initiative we are asking our supporters to complete a Letter of Intent which communicates their intention to CJ.  Our goal is to obtain 50 such letters over the next 18 months.  When we succeed, the Grinspoon Foundation will reward CJ with $10,000. If you are interested in participating in this initiative, feel free to contact Legacy Co-Chairs, Francine Raizes,
fraizes@gmail.com, or Sherri Weiss, sherriweiss@gmail.com.

Young Judaea turns 100

This is a very special time in the history of Young Judaea.  It's our 100th Anniversary Year!  In honor of this milestone, we are offering our campers an opportunity to become part of the unique relationship we have with Hadassah, the Zionist organization that sponsors Young Judaea and its camps.

Current YJ camp participants can become Hadassah Life Members (girls) or Hadassah Associates (boys) for the discounted price of $200*.   As an exciting bonus, $100 of every $200 fee will be given to Young Judaea to be used for future scholarships benefiting children from your area who wish to attend our camps or participate in our life-changing Israel programs!

This special offer is also valid for Young Judaean alumni. If you are an alumna or know any alumni, please pass the word.  Offer is valid only during Young Judaea's Centennial year and ends May 31, 2010.  Check out the attached flyer for more information and enrollment instructions.  If you require any additional information, please contact asachs@youngjudaea.org.

We look forward to welcoming your camper and any other alumni to Hadassah's family.  Together, Young Judaea and Hadassah will continue to touch the hearts of children and build the next generation of proud Jews.

Shalom,
