If you do hear one of these responses from above then you need to question the source.  Who just responded that way?  Was it said by a low-level executive, assistant or an employee at the company?  If it was then chances are you need to dig a bit deeper to find out the name of the business owner.  Your first contact should always be with the business owner.  It's much easier to work your way down then to work your way upwards to the top.  For this particular situation in which you spoke with someone besides the business owner then I would try back in a week or two after you did a little more due diligence and ask for the business owner.

So what happens if the business owner responds with one of the reactions from above?  Should you respond to them?  Absolutely and positively no way!  I know it's hard not to say anything, but hold your cool and let them do the talking and just move on.  It's not worth the saliva in your mouth to respond.  What do you really have to gain by responding?  Maybe they have caller ID and will report you to your superior?  Just apologize and move on.  There are to many other fish in the sea then to waste your time with such negativity.  Keep it positive and use that encounter as a learning experience.  Try to learn from one call to the next.  Maybe you need to open the call differently?  Maybe you can peruse their website and take a few nuggets from their website and incorporate these nuggets into your initial conversation?
