How to Write a Clever and Savvy Cold Calling Script

written by Pop Icon Mr. Cold Call™

One of the best ways to insure cold call success is to prepare a cold calling script. These scripts help you to organize your thoughts so that you know...

  • What can you say to your prospect to create interest on your opening telephone call?
  • What can you say to your prospect in response to objections that you come across?
  • What qualifying questions can you use to engage your prospect to uncover needs?
  • What closing questions can you use to advance the sales process?
  • What messages can you leave on your prospect's voice mail to receive a callback?
Once you have answered these five questions above and incorporated these answers into your call script it's important that you continuously practice and test your script (this means in what you say in your script and how you say it).  A successful script is about testing, testing and more testing.  So, if one part of your script isn't working then get rid of it, become a risk-taker and replace it with another line that may produce even greater response rates!  Learn how to actually have fun cold calling!

Are there any drawbacks to using a cold call script?  If you don't practice and test your script then you run the danger of sounding machine-like.  This means that your sales prospect will instantly identify you as someone who is "just trying to sell them something" versus someone who is "trying to uncover needs and offer practical solutions."  The more time that you spend in designing your script and tailoring it to your sales prospect (and their industry) then the less resistance you will encounter.  Less resistance means more time for active dialogue (i.e. asking open-end questions to help uncover business or personal needs) with your sales prospect and more dialogue always equates to more opportunities to drive in new business!

How do you prepare a well-crafted cold call script that immediately captures your prospect's attention?  How do you prepare a script that makes your prospect say WOW let's do some business together?  The design of this script that we will be discussing today is divided into six sections.  These sections include: Creative Sales Openers, Introductory Sales Openers, Linking Questions, Handling Sales Objections, Closing Sales Questions and Leaving Voicemail Messages.
