I was watching tv the other day and heard on the news that there were 11,000,000 people out of work. WOW! It got me thinking, what if I was one of those people? What would I do? If I was looking for work, my first thought would be to check out the job boards. There's a ton of them, but then I thought if I send a resume then how many others are thinking like me? I bet for every resume sent there's 50 to 100+ people who had this same thought. I need to come up with an idea that only 10% of these people would have thought of, I need to increase my chances "to be seen" or "to be called." I need to go against the grain, I need to out-smart and out-think my competition. My friends, this competition are other job seekers. So here are a few ideas that I came up with if I were looking for employment.
And by the way, I do hope that you take a minute to forward this email to a friend or former co-worker who is now out of work because you will be doing them a favor and feel free to cc me on your email as well by using the following email: seminars@mrcoldcall.com

LOOKING FOR A JOB - WHY NOT TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT?
Stop using job boards Visit your local office business park and write down interested names listed on their tenant directory. Go back to your house and start to locate the websites of these companies. Try to see if they have a jobs section for open positions. If not and you're still interested send a resume anyways.
Visit your local chamber in your area and pick up a membership directory or perhaps they have an online directory. As you make contact with these companies and contacts try sourcing where you found them in your emails and on your calls.
Bypass the person in the advertisment and contact the CEO of the company. This may sound like a bit too much, but sometimes you gotta try something different!
Fed-x the CEO of the company your resume.
Include a small toy with your resume. If it's a golf company include a golf ball. If it's a medical center, include a thermometer.
In your cover letter and if you speak with a recruiter, let them know how excited you are about the opportunity to interview with them. If you're not excited then how in the world can you expect the recruiter to be excited about you. I know times are tough and it's easier said then done, but you must find a way. There is a way and you need to find everything within in you to stay positive and enthusiastic.
Go to an office supply store and buy two large poster board signs. Somehow supersize your resume on one side of the board and on the other side write a cover letter as to what your looking for. Then, somehow attach the two signs together (with string) so that the signs somehow sandwich you in. Then go to your downtown area and walk up and down the street where everyone can see you (try calling the news station that you're doing this). Think like a PR Person and you will be seen. I know this sounds off the wall, but think about the press? Sometimes it takes a little creativity to move ahead of others.
