GRINGO STAR
Atlanta outfit Gringo Star shouldn't be lumped in with its grittier
garage brethren-the band plies its pretty pop with playful organ riffs
on its new album, All Y'All (My Anxious Mouth). The title track's
infectious cynicism pushes all the right retro buttons, recalling
British Invasion titans like the Kinks. Elsewhere, the band reveals
traces of Southern roots and harmony, but inevitable comparisons to
U.K.'s cuddlier combos will serve the quartet well. Its debut album is
certainly a much better listen than Supergrass's latest clunker.
