| Co-Presidents Message | Curriculum Night was well received! Parents were enthusiastic about meeting teachers, who did a terrific job acquainting parents with expectations for the school year. Ms. Crenshaw read an original poem to our teachers, and she spoke candidly to the parents about the merit of supporting Vanderlyn's Annual Fund, even providing terrific examples of what the Annual Fund has provided to the school in the past.
Currently, the Annual Fund has generated support from 55% of Vanderlyn families. Donations have totaled nearly $58,000. Our school community is off to a terrific start with this support, but we are still short of our goal to have full community-wide support. If you have made your donation already, thank you! Your timely support enables the Vanderlyn PTA to put programs in place for the benefit of every child in the building.
If you are part of the large minority that has not yet supported the Annual Fund, please give careful consideration to doing so now. Your support enables the PTA to fund a continuity of experience for our students, in a financial environment where county budget cuts are dramatic. Further, your support will fund several meaningful projects, including the completion of the kindergarten fence, the build-out of a Science Lab, and the purchase of additional resources that support the new CCGPS (Common Core Georgia Performance Standards) Curriculum. On-line contributions can be made through the Vanderlyn PTA website.
Have a terrific week! Julia LeDoyen and Courtney Kuriger

Attention parents of second and third graders: Vanderlyn needs volunteers to fill the roles of Second and Third Grade Production Chairs. Production chairs are responsible for assisting our Drama, Dance and Music instructors in the production of a fantastic grade-wide show. This year the second grade will revisit the beloved performance "The Nutcracker" in January, and the third grade will perform "The Presidents" in April. As a chair, you will work with our teachers and students, and to a lesser degree, classroom production coordinators. Contact Randi Siegel at randisiegel@hotmail.com for more information.

2012-2013 Reflections Contest
| The Reflections Art Program, a nation-wide contest sponsored by the National PTA, has been rewarding students for artistic excellence for over 40 years!
We must never forget the critical role that artistic expression plays in our lives. In that spirit, we remind all Vanderlyn students that it is time to think about submitting their entries for the Reflections Art Contest. Vanderlyn has no shortage of highly creative and talented students! Students may express that creative talent in as many categories as they would like - Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, Photography, Literature, Film Production and Music. This year's theme is "The Magic of a Moment". The deadline for entries is October 5 at 8 a.m. The first and second place winners in each grade and category will advance to the state level, with the possibility of advancing to the national level. Grand prize national winners will receive monetary awards along with national recognition! Contact Robin Murphy or Louisa Boss with any questions. Additional contest information can be found on our Vanderlyn PTA website.
