SRP not just for little ones |

This season the Wallkill Public Library wants to make sure our adult patrons have some of their own Summer Reading Program events and programs to look forward to! Whether you're into reading, crafts, sewing, or knitting, you'll be able to find a program that suits your taste, the bonus being the opportunity to meet people interested in discussing something besides the Power Rangers or Wii games (hopefully). Upcoming adult programs include: June 28 - Our Fiction Book Club meets at 6:30 at the library to discuss Emma Donoghue's Room and plan for what we'll read next. No need to have read this month's selection! Join us and listen in! June 30 - Celebrate summer at Dutchess Stadium with a ballgame and fireworks! Geek the Library Night tickets are still on sale and include the evening Renegades game, a team hat, and post-game fireworks - all for $15 per ticket! Purchase yours today at the circulation desk, or go online and enter the password wallpl. July 11 - Felting for Adults will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Come in and let craft diva Christine Adams show you how it's done - you'll come away with a beautiful project and the skill to make more! July 15 - It's a Sunday, but it's also the first night of Vacation Bible School at Wallkill Reformed Church, and because we don't want parents to have to sit in their cars while they wait for their kids, the library will be open at 6:30 p.m. Stop by and browse for DVDs, books, or magazines in peace, or jump on one of our computers and answer some emails. July 17 - Scrabble for Adults will be offered at 6 p.m. Bring your own opponent or find one at the library. Enjoy a chuteless, ladderless, candyless game, for a change! July 23 - Award-winning author Lynn Austin will be here to discuss and sign copies of her latest book, Wonderland Creek. See below for more information about our Author Nights - we're excited to host such talented guests! July 25 - Christine Adams will instruct participants in her Adult Card Class on how to make the perfect card for a loved one or friend! July 30 - Bestselling local author Jennifer Probst will discuss and sign copies of her bestseller, The Marriage Bargain. Read more about her and our other Author Night guest, Lynn Austin, below!
And don't forget - the Quilters Circle meets July 18 at 6:30 and once every month of the year! The Knit-Crochet Club meets each Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
See you soon! |

Austin, Probst offer book signings
Acclaimed authors Lynn Austin and Jennifer Probst will discuss and sign copies of their books this summer at the library's Author Nights!
Lynn, who's been writing full time since 1992, has won four Christy Awards for her historical fiction. One of her novels, Hidden Places, was made into a Hallmark Channel movie.
The mother of three, Lynn makes her home with her husband near Chicago, but has local ties - her sister, Peggy Hach, is a professor at SUNY New Paltz, and her mother, Virginia Davis, was former director of our own library!
She'll be at the library from 7-8 p.m. July 23 to sign copies of her book, Wonderland Creek.
Jennifer Probst's first book, Heart of Steel, has recently been re- issued in eformat. This after the smashing success of her latest bestseller, The Marriage Bargain, which is the first installment of her new series.
If Jennifer looks familiar, it's because she lives right here in the Wallkill School District! You may have seen her picking up the eldest of her two adorable boys from school, or right here at the library!
Jennifer wrote her first love story at the age of 12, and has been writing ever since. The Marriage Bargain has become a New York Times and USA Today bestseller.
Jennifer will be at the library at 7 p.m. July 30 to discuss and sign copies of her books. |

Goolrick's back with another reliable read Heading Out to Wonderful by Robert Goolrick
It is the summer of 1948 when a handsome, charismatic stranger, Charlie Beale, recently back from the war in Europe, shows up in the town of Brownsburg, a sleepy village of a few hundred people, nestled in the Valley of Virginia. All he has with him are two suitcases: one contains his few possessions, including a fine set of butcher knives; the other is full of money. A lot of money. Finding work at the local butcher shop, Charlie befriends the owner and his family, including the owner's son, Sam, who he is soon treating him as though he were his own flesh and blood. And it is through the shop that Charlie gradually meets all the townsfolk, including Boaty Glass, Brownsburg's wealthiest citizen, and most significantly, Boaty's beautiful teenage bride, Sylvan. This last encounter sets in motion the events that give Goolrick's powerful tale the stark, emotional impact that thrilled fans of his previous novel, A Reliable Wife. Charlie's attraction to Sylvan Glass turns first to lust and then to a need to possess her, a need so basic it becomes an all-consuming passion that threatens to destroy everything and everyone in its path.
